Objects Conservation Fellowship
* page is under construction
After completing a year in the Yale Babylonian Collection, my fellowship was extended to allow me to support collections moves at the Peabody prior to the renovation, exhibit preparation for the renovated galleries, and other day-to-day collections and conservation operations.
Collections Moves
-
Helped evacuate 2 Anthropology collection rooms: 900+ Indo-Pacific objects, 8500+ North American objects
-
Worked with museum assistants on condition assessments, cleaning, packing and storage mounts, photography, and triage treatments
-
Tracked objects in EMu through the move stages; created and maintained catalog, conservation, and multimedia records
Exhibit Preparation
-
Wrote condition reports for all objects for the Anthropology galleries, including treatment proposals
-
Objects were cleaned when necessary, treatments completed for stability and cosmetic reasons
-
Worked with curators, exhibit designers, and mountmakers on object selection, level of treatment, and optimal display
Collection Audit
-
8838 objects were flagged in collection as "needs attention," many since the 1990s
-
Began working through the list to update the condition status and notes; also updating storage and other documentation when necessary
-
Tracked down missing objects
-
Selected objects for treatment
Other work
-
Taught object handling lessons for new staff, student workers, and classes
-
Social media with YBC, book chapter
-
Geo-referencing objects, multimedia audits, and other EMu work
